HanMuDo is a traditional Korean martial art form founded by Ninth Degree Black,
famous martial arts historian Dr. He-Young Kimm after more than forty years of
training and research in Korean martial arts systems. HanMuDo is comprised of
the study of empty hand techniques, the study of weapons, the study of Ki, and
the study of martial arts philosophy. This locking and throwing style emphasizes
the concept of learning self-discipline, self-control, self-confidence, and
self-realization:
Self-discipline is developed through consistent training and
practice, even if the practitioner is tired or distracted.
Self-control, both physical and mental, is learned through the
blocks and counters characteristic of the HanMuDo art.
Self-confidence is built with the gaining of technique, physical
health, knowledge, and a strong mind.
Self-realization comes through the planning and earning of short-
and long-term goals, moving from beginner to intermediate to advanced levels of
HanMuDo practice.
The HanMuDo program is open to all active ITA members (no age limit), although
it is recommended that each student be a Yellow Belt or above. This is the only
program outside of TaeKwonDo that allows participants to earn rank. Curriculum
is limited to the Provisional level.
Qualifications for an annual teaching certificate are coordinated between ITA
and the
World HanMuDo Association.
